Flying drones has always been an exciting part of my work, whether for music videos, commercial shoots, or documentary filmmaking. But now, I’ve taken it to the next level—I’m officially an Advanced Drone Pilot, certified under Transport Canada’s regulations. This means DIRXECP can now legally fly in controlled airspace, operate closer to people, and take on more complex aerial cinematography projects.
The Journey to Certification
Earning this certification wasn’t just about flying a drone—it was a deep dive into the legal, technical, and operational aspects of drone piloting.
The process involved:
Mastering aviation regulations – Understanding the airspace classifications, restricted areas, and special flight operations.
Risk assessments and flight planning – Learning how to assess weather conditions, potential hazards, and emergency procedures.
In-flight maneuvers and precision flying – Demonstrating control, smooth movements, and safe takeoffs/landings under strict testing conditions.
Emergency response training – Preparing for unexpected situations like loss of signal, GPS failures, or sudden weather changes.

The final Advanced Flight Review tested all of these skills in real-world scenarios, ensuring that I could operate safely and responsibly in high-risk environments.
What This Means for DIRXECP and Our Clients
This certification opens up major opportunities for DIRXECP’s drone cinematography services.
Now, we can provide:
✅ Flights in controlled airspace – We can operate in areas that were previously restricted, including cityscapes and high-traffic locations.
✅ Closer proximity to people and structures – Perfect for events, real estate projects, and commercial shoots where dynamic aerial shots are needed.
✅ More complex and cinematic drone work – With advanced permissions, we can push creative boundaries while staying compliant with safety regulations.

Looking Ahead
This certification is a huge step forward for my video production business. It ensures that we’re not just operating at a high creative level, but also meeting the strictest safety and legal standards for drone cinematography in Canada.

If you need professional, fully certified aerial footage for your next music video, real estate listing, commercial, or documentary project, let’s make it happen. DIRXECP is now cleared for takeoff—legally and creatively. 🚀
